Analysis of electoral results and election campaigns in the US

On 13 November, the Faculty of Political Sciences and Sociology will offer a conference by John Hudak, fellow in Governance Studies at Brookings Institution and expert in this subject.

John Hudak is fellow of Governance Studies and Managing Editor of the FixGov blog at Brooking Institution. His research examines issues related to presidential powers within the sectors of administration, personnel and public policies. He also focuses on campaigns and elections, bureaucratic processes and interactions between the legislative and executive powers.

The conference, entitled "Analysis of the Results of the Legislative Elections in the US and Electoral Campaigns", will take place at the Sala de Graus of the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology from 10 to 11:30 am. The conference has been organised by the UAB Department of Journalism, the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology and the American Consulate in Barcelona.

Professor Hudak is author of the book Presidential Pork, on the influence of the White House in the distribution of federal grants. The book explores how agency staff, experience, institutional structure, etc. can make it easier or more difficult for the president to have power. He analyses the balance between political control and bureaucratic experience in public policies. The result of Presidential Pork is an accurate study on presidential power and public policies.

The quality of the work and contributions made by John Hudak has been recognised by the Political Science Association and the Midwest Presidency of the Research Group of the American Political Science Association. His work has received support from several institutions, such as the National Science Foundation.

The FixGov blog, of which he is managing editor, is a blog which identifies and has as its objective the solving of the most pressing political and governance challenges of the nation by offering realistic solutions.
