We live in a digital age where artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming us all the areas of society, from the economy, education, health, culture or leisure. AI offers enormous benefits and opportunities, but it also poses significant challenges and risks for human rights, democracy, security or justice.
For this reason, it is essential that professionals in the world of law know the regulations and ethical issues that regulate AI and its applications. This will ensure respect for legal principles and values, as well as protect the interests and rights of people and entities affected by AI.
If you are interested in artificial intelligence and digital law, and want to learn how to apply the latest AI technologies in the legal field, the Artificial Intelligence and Digital Law master's degree that the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona will start in year 2025 for you. This master's degree is the first of its kind in Spain and offers comprehensive and multidisciplinary training in the most innovative and in-demand areas of digital law.
The master's degree is aimed at professionals in the world of law who want to update their knowledge and skills in the field of artificial intelligence and digital law.

The master's degree will allow you to:
- Know the technical and legal foundations of artificial intelligence and its applications to law.
- Analyze the ethical, social and legal tweaks planted by artificial intelligence and digital law.
- Develop practical skills for the use of AI tools in the legal field, such as contract automation, sentence prediction, data analysis or legal assistance.
- Participate in real projects and case studies with leading companies and institutions in the field of artificial intelligence and digital law.

The master's degree lasts one academic year. The master's has a teaching team formed by experts in artificial intelligence and digital law, both from the University Autònoma de Barcelona, and othercollaborating institutions.

Career opportunities

This study offers students who pass the course the necessary training from both a legal and technological point of view to:

- Work as consultants and digital lawyers, specialized in Artificial Intelligence and data protection, to be part of the team of a company that looks after the
compliance with the RGPD and the LOPDGDD and the future AI Regulation.
- Act as Data Protection Delegates specialized in data processing based on Artificial Intelligence.
- Perform legal advisory functions on legal liability, as well as governance strategy and regulatory compliance in the application of AI systems.
- Work as intellectual property and Artificial Intelligence lawyers and consultants.
- Work as lawyers and consultants in electronic commerce law, digital and collaborative economy and cryptocurrencies.
- Perform consulting functions in Legaltech and other emerging technologies within the legal sector.
- Perform legal advisory functions for large Internet service provider companies in the application of the Digital Services Regulation and the Digital Markets Regulation, especially in the application of AI to their activities.
- Be a legal advisor to Start-ups or consolidated companies oriented towards the development of AI systems.
- Be a legal advisor to Smart cities in the implementation of AI.
- Act as data protection auditors in treatments where AI is applied, as well as the audits and specific impact assessments that will be required by the future AI Regulation.
- Work in a company where they process large amounts of personal data. This master's degree will give essential knowledge to the workers of a company who deal with personal data of customers, suppliers or other employees on a daily basis.

Internships

UAB masters and graduate diplomas may include or facilitate external academic internships in companies or institutions in order to help the student to achieve a level of expertise that facilitates the insertion or promotion in the workplace.

For this study programme non-curricular (optional) internships are possible:

  • Non-curricular
    As a UAB student, you have access to the University occupation portal, the Occupability Service, through which you can participate in selection processes for non-curricular practices as well as getting a contract. In both cases, you need to sign up to the Nexus application.
